Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Looking to jump-start a sluggish offense, Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano has decided to bench quarterback Josh Freeman in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.
Schiano called it a "performance-based" decision during his press conference on Wednesday.
Freeman has struggled with the Bucs off to an 0-3 start. He has completed just 45.7 percent of his passes for 571 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His quarterback rating of 59.3 is the worst in the NFL.
According to Schiano, Glennon gives the Buccaneers the "best chance to win today."
Glennon was selected in the third round of April's draft after a standout career at North Carolina State. He threw 31 touchdown passes in each of his two seasons as a starter with the Wolfpack.
"I think Mike Glennon is Mike Glennon," Schiano said. "I think he's going to help us win a lot of games."
Tampa Bay, which has lost eight of nine dating back to last season, welcomes Arizona to town on Sunday.
