Boomer isn't your average Collie.
“I’ve never met a dog like this,” said Marcus Hall of Score Basketball.
“Boomer’rs 7, he’s been coming to the gym since he was just a puppy," said Boomer's owner Don Calvert. "From day one he was a natural, just loves playing ball,”
He's the 'son' of a former Oklahoma Sooners basketball player. Like his dad, he hustles, and has great work ethic, but when it comes to ball handling, he's a bit sloppy.
“I caught the ball and I’m like oh man, this is sick," Hall said. "So I just move out the way.”
“If you roll it to Boomer, he will bite on it," explains five-year old Daevion Calvert. "He makes the ball slobbery.”
It's a cute thought, a basketball playing dog, but those that go up against Boomer quickly find out he's no joke.
“He’s good!" said Tyler O'Donnell, a basketball player training at SCORE. "Surprisingly, he’s a really good basketball player for a dog.”
They make a good team. Don Calvert and his coaches teach the fundamentals, and Boomer gets everyone in shape.
“He will focus for hours, never gets tired," Calvert says. "I tell the kids that if they play like him, they’ll be good too.”
He's pretty lovable, but if you're out on the floor with Boomer, you better come ready to work because if there's one thing this pup doesn't stand for, it's dog'n it out on the basketball court.
