CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Illinois football coach Tim Beckman says he saw none of the improprieties alleged this week in a series of Sports Illustrated articles when he was an assistant coach for the Cowboys.

The Sports Illustrated stories allege a range of problems from 1999 through 2011. They include claims of players being paid by boosters to having their school work done for them.

Beckman was defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State in 2007 and 2008.

The Herald & Review in Decatur reports that Beckman said he was shocked when he learned about the allegations.

The second-year Illini coach said he's never broken rules as a coach and wouldn't have gone along with any of the alleged improprieties if he'd known about them.
