The Jim Thorpe Association announced Monday that Oklahoma senior cornerback Aaron Colvin is among 15 semifinalists for the 2013 Jim Thorpe Award, given to the top defensive back in college football.

Colvin serves as one of Oklahoma’s captains for the 2013 season, ranking fourth on the squad with 39 tackles (30 solo). He is third on the team with 5.0 tackles for loss (-11 yards) and also has an interception, a sack, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups. The Owasso, Okla., native was an All-Big 12 First Team selection by AP and the coaches in 2012 after leading the team with 11 pass breakups. He also finished second on the squad with four interceptions and was third on the team with 61 tackles (47 solo) as a junior.

The Thorpe Award is presented by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and Jim Thorpe Association in Oklahoma City. Thorpe excelled at every sport in which he competed, including football at which he played on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The three Thorpe Award finalists will be named on Monday, Nov. 25, and the winner will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12 airing on ESPN. The winner of the 2013 Thorpe Award will be honored at a banquet in Oklahoma City on Feb. 4, 2014.

The Jim Thorpe Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football.
