Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson on a five-year extension through the 2018-19 season.

Financial terms of the deal, which starts with the 2014-15 season, were not disclosed.

Hjalmarsson has been part of the last two championship teams in Chicago, winning the Cup in 2010 and again this past spring. He had five assists and a plus-10 rating in 23 playoff games this year.

The 26-year-old native of Sweden notched two goals with eight assists for 10 points in playing all 48 games during the shortened 2013 regular season. He also posted a career-best plus-15 rating.

Hjalmarsson was selected by the Blackhawks in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and has a plus-48 rating with nine goals and 47 assists in 306 career regular season games.

It's the second long-term extension the Blackhawks have given this week, as goaltender Corey Crawford agreed to a six-year deal on Monday.
