Irving, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys have placed linebacker Bruce Carter on injured reserve because of an elbow injury.

Carter was hurt during the second half of last Thursday's game against Washington. He will join linebacker Sean Lee, defensive end Kenyon Coleman and safety Barry Church as starting defensive players on IR.

The Cowboys have signed linebacker Brady Poppinga to fill the roster spot. The 33-year-old BYU product started 12 of the 15 games he played last season with St. Louis after spending his first six NFL seasons with Green Bay.
