Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland Browns coach Rob Chudzinski announced Friday that quarterback Brian Hoyer will need season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Hoyer hurt his right knee on a scramble during the first quarter of Thursday's win over the Buffalo Bills. He broke free along the right sideline and picked up a first down, but was hit from behind by Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso and his legs bent awkwardly underneath him.

The former third-string quarterback was making his third consecutive start for an injured Brandon Weeden and had helped the Browns to a pair of victories.

Weeden came on in relief and led the Browns to their third straight win. He finished 13-of-24 for 197 yards with a touchdown.

Hoyer completed 57-of-96 passes for 615 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions in three games this year.

Weeden is expected to take over as the team's starter again.
