Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Bills dipped under the NFL's 53-man roster limit by releasing five players on Saturday, including veteran linebacker Bryan Scott.

The Bills also waived edge player Jamie Blatnick, defensive end Izaan Cross, quarterback Thad Lewis and defensive tackle Torell Troup.

The moves come on the heels of Friday's maneuverings in which Buffalo released 18 players and put three more on injured reserve. Currently, the Bills have 50 players on their roster and three open spots.

Scott spent the previous six seasons in Buffalo, appearing in 87 games but was beaten out for the club's reserve inside linebacker role by Marcus Dowtin.

Troup was a former second-round pick of the Bills in 2010 but was plagued by persistent back problems. Lewis, meanwhile, was acquired in a trade with Detroit last weekend.

The Bills will open their regular season on Sept. 8, when they play host to the New England Patriots.
