Hawks' Williams out for the season with ACL tear

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Hawks guard Lou Williams will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, the team announced on Saturday.

Williams suffered the injury during Friday's loss to the Brooklyn Nets and it was originally determined that he had sprained his knee, but an MRI later revealed a tear to the ligament.

Williams' knee buckled during a fast break opportunity in the second quarter and was helped to the locker room by use of a wheelchair.

"We are extremely disappointed for Lou and our thoughts and support will be with him during his recovery," said general manager Danny Ferry. "He has been a complete professional in every sense of the word and know that approach, along with his work ethic, will serve him well in his rehabilitation."

The seven-year pro will undergo a period of rest before having surgery to repair the injury at a date to be determined.

Over 39 games this season, Williams averaged 14.1 points and 3.6 assists per game.
