Recap: LA Clippers vs. Orlando
Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Arron Afflalo and J.J. Redick combined for 51 points and made big shots in the fourth quarter to help propel the Orlando Magic to a 104-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.
Afflalo tallied 30 points -- 23 coming in the second half -- to go with seven rebounds and seven assists, while Redick scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting to help the Magic snap a 10-game losing streak. Redick shot 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, and his triple with under a minute left gave Orlando the lead for good.
"Our team deserved this one, we cut down the turnovers and played for 48 minutes," said Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn. "Today we put it together and things went our way."
Nikola Vucevic recorded 18 points and 15 rebounds in Orlando's first victory since Dec. 19.
Blake Griffin filled the stat sheet with 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Clippers, who saw their franchise-best 13-game home winning streak come to an end.
"Embarassing performance, we got beat in every aspect," said Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro. "We let them hang around and we got what we deserved. Very dissapointed in our effort."
Chris Paul contributed 10 points, 16 assists and four steals for Los Angeles, while Jamal Crawford scored 13 points off the bench in defeat.
A 16-point first half effort from Griffin helped the Clippers to a 57-49 lead at the break, but Affalo and Redick proved to be too much for Los Angeles to handle over the final two periods.
Afflalo erupted for 15 points in third, hitting two 3-pointers early in the stanza before finishing consecutive three-point plays to tie the game at 66-66 with 6:48 remaining in the quarter.
The Clippers did not allow the Magic to get in front during the period, however, and following a Redick triple to keep them within one at 71-70, Los Angeles closed out the period on a 12-5 run to take an 83-75 edge into the fourth quarter.
Following Crawford's jumper to give the Clippers a 95-87 lead, Orlando made another push thanks to Afflalo, who converted a four-point play after drawing a foul on a made triple. Vucevic then knocked down a 20-footer to cap eight unanswered Magic points to tie the game at 95-95 with 3:42 left in the game.
After tying the game back up on a layup, Redick gave Orlando its first lead of the contest at 102-99 by making a 3-pointer with less than a minute left. He threw a pump fake to create space and drilled the tie-breaking triple with just 42.1 seconds to go.
Paul hit a jumper to pull Los Angeles within one, but after a Lamar Odom block at the other end to give the Clippers the ball back, Crawford was charged with an offensive foul with 12.9 seconds remaining.
Josh McRoberts then found a wide open Vucevic under the basket to give Orlando a 104-101 edge with 8.1 seconds remaining. Crawford had a chance to tie the game when he got a shot off from behind the arc, but it bounced off the back- rim and the Magic held on for the win.Game Notes
