Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers and pitcher Chris Narveson have agreed to a one-year contract, thus avoiding arbitration.

Narveson went 1-1 with a 7.00 earned run average in two starts last season before surgery to repair the rotator cuff in his left shoulder ended his campaign early.

Over five seasons, the 31-year-old southpaw has compiled a 26-18 record with a 4.67 ERA in 95 games (63 starts) with St. Louis and Milwaukee.

Also on Thursday, the Brewers agreed to a minor league contract with former 18-game winner Kelvim Escobar. The 36-year-old right-hander has appeared in just one game in the majors since 2007.
