This community needed some good news and the Bixby Spartans football team delivered Friday in a big way.
Senior quarterback Staton King accounted for four first-half touchdowns and the Spartans launched their quest for a fourth straight 6A Division II championship by racing by Stillwater 41-14 in a first-round playoff game at Lee Snider Field.
King passed for three TDs and ran for a fourth in a nearly flawless first half for the Spartans (7-4) before about 6,500 spectators on a chilly, windy night.
The Spartans extended their playoff winning streak over four seasons to 10 and advanced to play Midwest City in the semifinals next week. The second-ranked Bombers dispatched Sand Springs in another first-round game. Site, day and time of the semifinal will be announced Saturday by the OSSAA.
