Hamilton, NY (Sports Network) - The Albany and Colgate football teams are looking to get on the winning track this weekend.
Only one will avoid an 0-2 start to the season when they meet on Saturday at Colgate.
The Great Danes dropped their season-opening contest to former Northeast Conference foe Duquesne in Pittsburgh, while Colgate, the preseason Patriot League favorite, lost to Air Force.
This meeting will be the fourth in a series Colgate leads, 2-1. Albany holds the most recent victory, however, when the Danes downed the Raiders, 40-23, last September. In 2011, Colgate narrowly edged out Albany, 37-34, in overtime.
Expect another offensive contest Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium, where Colgate coach Dick Biddle will coach in his 200th game with the Raiders.
Walter Payton Award nominee Gavin McCarney performed admirably against the more powerful Air Force Saturday, throwing for 143 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-27 passing. He will square off against Albany second-year starter Will Fiacchi, who racked up 346 yards through the air, with two touchdown passes and an interception, last week.
Judging by their Week 1 losses, the Danes and Raiders didn't get much help from their defenses. Albany allowed 398 yards to Duquesne through the air, while Colgate gave up over 400 yards rushing to the Falcons.
