Recap: Wyoming vs. Colorado State
Laramie, WY (SportsNetwork.com) - Kapri Bibbs ran for a career-high 201 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Colorado State Rams over the Wyoming Cowboys, 52-22, in a Mountain West Conference matchup at War Memorial Stadium.
Bibbs did his damage on 29 carries for the Rams (3-4, 1-1 MWC), who had lost the previous four meetings with Wyoming. Garrett Grayson added a solid performance of his own, completing 18-of-23 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Donnell Alexander carried the ball 15 times for 77 yards and one score while adding 34 yards receiving and a touchdown on just one catch.
Brett Smith struggled for the Cowboys (4-3, 2-1), completing 21-of-36 passes for 246 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Smith's key receiver was Dominic Rufran, who tallied seven receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown. Shaun Wick carried the ball 15 times for 64 yards and touchdown, while Tedder Easton managed 81 yards and a score on just five carries. Wyoming has lost two of its last three after a 3-1 start to the season.
Colorado State got things going early. On the opening drive of the game, Grayson found Kivon Cartwright for a 24-yard touchdown pass. Alexander managed a three-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, and with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter, Bibbs took in a seven-yard touchdown on the ground to give the Rams a 21-0 lead.
The Cowboys finally responded, as they put together an 11-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off by an 11-yard touchdown rush by Wick with 55 seconds left in the half. Even with less than a minute remaining, the Rams managed to drive down field and set up a 45-yard field goal by Jared Roberts in the final seconds of the half. Colorado State led 24-7 at the break.
The second half played out much like the first. On the opening drive of the third quarter, Smith was intercepted by Shaquil Barrett at Wyoming's 26-yard line. Two plays later, Grayson found Austin Gray for a 22-yard touchdown pass.
On the following drive for Wyoming, Smith passed to Rufran for a 71-yard touchdown. The Cowboys went for the two-point conversion and were successful with a run by Brandon Miller.
After Grayson threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Alexander and Bibbs ran in both a 59-yard touchdown and a nine-yard touchdown for Colorado State, Wyoming got the final score of the game in the form of a 67-yard run by Easton.
The Cowboys turned the ball over three times and allowed Colorado State to tally 509 yards of total offense.Game Notes
