Recap: Temple vs. Cincinnati

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Brendon Kay threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start, as the Cincinnati Bearcats claimed a 34-10 win over the Temple Owls in Big East play from Lincoln Financial Field.

Replacing former starter Munchie Legaux, Kay also rushed for 71 yards on seven carries and did not turn the ball over for the Bearcats (7-2, 3-1 Big East). George Winn had 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

The fading Owls (3-6, 2-4) suffered their fourth consecutive loss. Starting quarterback Chris Coyer was replaced by Clinton Granger in the second half, and he guided Temple to its only touchdown of the day in the third quarter.

Winn got Cincinnati on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter.

The Owls answered with a 12-play, 72-yard drive, although the drive stalled at the Cincinnati 3 and they had to settle for a 20-yard field goal by Brandon McManus.

On the second play of the ensuing possession, Kay hooked up with Kenbrell Thompkins for a momentum-shifting 75-yard scoring strike.

The Bearcats made it a 21-3 game on Winn's one-yard touchdown plunge at the eight-minute mark of the second quarter, capping an eight-play, 80-yard drive.

A 22-yard field goal by Tony Miliano just before halftime gave Cincinnati a 24-3 advantage.

Temple trimmed the margin to 24-10 with just under nine minutes to play in the third quarter, as Granger finished off an eight-play, 75-yard drive with a four-yard TD pass to Cody Booth.

But later in the third quarter, Cincinnati stretched its lead back to 21 points when Kay found Chris Moore for a 65-yard touchdown dagger. Miliano added a 23-yard field goal in the final minutes of regulation to account for the final score.

Temple managed only 267 yards of total offense for the game, as running backs Matt Brown and Montel Harris were held to only 54 combined yards on the ground.
