Recap: Fla Atlantic vs. Troy

Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Graham Wilbert completed 26-of-40 attempts for 261 yards and four touchdowns to guide the Florida Atlantic Owls to a thrilling 34-27 victory over the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference battle in Boca Raton.

William Dukes finished with 41 yards on six receptions and caught the game- winning touchdown pass with only 17 seconds remaining for FAU (2-6, 1-4 Sun Belt), which snapped a 14-game losing streak versus conference rivals. Nexon Dorvilus had a strong showing as well with six catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Jonathan Wallace gained 87 yards on 24 carries and Brent Harstad anchored the defense with 15 total tackles.

For Troy (4-4, 3-3), Corey Robinson went 15-of-32 for 211 yards with a touchdown and interception. Shawn Southward turned 11 carries into 68 yards and two touchdowns while Chip Reeves made five receptions for 88 yards. The Trojans have now lost in two of their last three outings.

FAU controlled the opening quarter as its offense had no problem moving the ball down the field at the start of the contest. Wilbert completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Dorvilus with just over five minutes after the opening kickoff. Wilbert and Dorvilus connected on a nine-yard touchdown pass with 5:22 left in the first quarter to put the Owls on top, 14-0.

After both teams were held scoreless for the first part of the second period, Mitch Anderson extended FAU's advantage by drilling a 35-yard field goal with 6:43 to go before the intermission.

Troy finally produced some points as Will Scott connected on a 52-yard field goal. The Trojans' offense made its first mark as Corey Robinson completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jaquon Robinson.

Martese Jackson fumbled on FAU's next play from scrimmage which returned the ball to Troy with only 49 seconds left in the second quarter. Robinson completed a 27-yard pass to Southward, who then rushed it in from a yard out to send the contest into halftime tied up, 17-17.

The Owls had a strong start to the second half as Anderson drilled a 47-yard field goal and Wilbert completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Jenson Stoshak in the third period. FAU failed to add the extra point after the touchdown, which sent it into the fourth quarter on top, 26-17.

The Trojans rallied in the final frame. Scott finished off a 14-play, 95-yard drive with a 17-yard field goal to make it a one possession game with 6:21 left before the final gun. Southward broke away for a 31-yard dash to the end zone with just under two minutes remaining. Scott's extra point kick gave Troy a 27-26 lead.

FAU took over with 1:49 on the clock and Wilbert picked apart Troy's defense before finding Dukes in the end zone with only 17 seconds on the game clock. The Owls made it a seven-point game as Wilbert completed a pass to Wallace for the two-point conversion.

Despite the loss, Troy holds an 8-2 edge in its all-time series with FAU.
