Recap: Arkansas State vs. Western Ky

Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - After getting shut out in the first half, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers scored 26 unanswered points after halftime to roll to a 26-13 win over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Liberty Bank Stadium.

Antonio Andrews rushed for a career-high 215 yards and a score for WKU (4-1, 1-0 Sun Belt), which has won three straight. Filling in for Kawaun Jakes, who suffered an injury in the first half, redshirt freshman James Mauro completed 8-of-12 passes for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Mitchell Henry (four receptions, 43 yards).

For Arkansas State (2-3, 0-1), Ryan Aplin threw for 204 yards and ran for another 41, but he completed just 23-of-40 passes and threw an interception. Fredi Knighten completed just one pass but it was good enough for the team's only touchdown. The Red Wolves have now lost two of three.

The Red Wolves drove deep into WKU territory on a 17-play drive midway through the first quarter but had to settle for a 20-yard field goal from Brian Davis to get off to an early lead.

Another Davis field goal (33 yards) early in the second quarter extended Arkansas State's advantage to 6-0.

The Red Wolves finally found the end zone just before the half when Knighten completed a four-yard scoring strike to Anthony Kincy to give Arkansas State a 13-0 advantage.

The Hilltoppers came storming back in the third quarter. Mauro hooked up with Henry for two touchdowns less than two minutes apart as WKU took a 14-13 lead.

WKU extended its advantage at the start of the fourth quarter following a 22- yard field goal from Garrett Schwettman. Andrews added a one-yard touchdown rush later in the quarter to give the Hilltoppers a 23-13 lead.

Schwettman added one more field goal before it was all said and done as WKU held on for the win.

Quanterus Smith set a career-high with 3.5 sacks for WKU, while Xavius Boyd recorded 10 tackles, a half sack, and an interception.
