Recap: Youngstown St vs. Ill-Chicago

Youngstown, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bobby Hain notched a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds as the Youngstown State Penguins edged past the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 59-56, in a Horizon League matchup at the Beeghly Center.

Kendrick Perry racked up a game-high 31 points for the Penguins (14-13, 5-7 HL), who broke out of a four-game slide. Shawn Amiker grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory.

Kelsey Barlow tallied 17 points and six assists to lead the Flames (5-21, 0-12), as they dropped their fifteenth consecutive game. Pat Birt netted 15 points and Jordan Harks pulled in 15 rebounds.

The Penguins started slow, shooting just 21.4 percent from the field in the opening half. At the other end, the Flames shot 44.4 percent and led 27-19 at the half.

In the second half, the Penguins improved to 54.5 percent from the floor and sank 13-of-17 from the free-throw line to erase the first-half deficit. The Flames, on the other hand, dipped to 35.5 percent shooting and got to the line for just 3-of-4. With one second left, a Barlow 3-pointer put the Flames back within one, but Perry hit both of his ensuing free throws and put the game away.

YSU outscored the visitors, 14-0, in fast-break points and won despite leading by no more than five points during the contest.
