Recap: BYU vs. San Francisco
Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Collinsworth and Tyler Haws each scored 19 points as the BYU Cougars narrowly defeated the San Francisco Dons, 68-63, in a West Coast Conference contest at the Marriott Center.
Eric Mika had a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards for the Cougars (17-9, 9-4), who have extended their winning streak to five games. Matt Carlino added 11 points and nine assists, as Nate Austin cleared 16 rebounds.
Tim Derksen finished with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting in just 23 minutes for the Dons (15-10, 8-5), who have lost two of their last three games. Mark Tollefsen chipped in 12 points, while Avry Holmes and Cole Dickerson tallied 10 points apiece, while Dickerson brought down six rebounds.
BYU shot 38.7 percent from the floor in the first half, but made 7-of-12 from the free-throw line, as the Cougars led 32-29 at the break. San Francisco made 43.3 percent of its shots from the field.
The Cougars connected on 44.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the second stanza. With the game tied at 55-55 and 7:02 remaining, BYU went on a 13-8 run to close out the game and secure the win.
BYU dominated the boards by outrebounding the Dons, 47-29. The Cougars also had the advantage from the free-throw line, 14-6.Game Notes
