Recap: Akron vs. Buffalo

Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Quincy Diggs erupted for 25 points as the Akron Zips downed the Buffalo Bulls, 83-71, in Mid-American Conference action at James A. Rhodes Arena.

Demetrius Treadwell tallied 17 points and six rebounds for the Zips (19-11, 11-6 MAC), who also received 14 points courtesy of Nick Harney. Diggs also finished with five rebounds and four steals to help Akron to its second- straight win.

Joshua Freelove paced Buffalo (18-9, 12-5) with 17 points. Javon McCrea scored 15 points, while Shannon Evans provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and five assists.

The Zips shot 46.9 percent from the floor and outrebounded the visitors, 20-15, in the opening period en route to a 35-30 halftime lead. Buffalo missed all eight of its shots from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Bulls improved their perimeter shooting as they knocked down 7-of-17 attempts from 3-point range after the break, but they allowed Akron to make good on 58.3 percent of its field goal tries and convert 17-of-25 shots at the charity stripe in the second half. Buffalo was plagued by eight turnovers over the final 20 minutes of play.

The Zips finished with a 36-28 advantage in total rebounds and tallied 23 points off of the Bulls' 15 miscues. Buffalo still holds a one-game lead over Akron in the MAC East Division race with one game left to play.
