Recap: Washington St vs. California

Pullman, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Cobbs netted 22 points and dished out seven assists as the California Golden Bears outlasted the Washington State Cougars, 80-76, in a Pac-12 overtime bout at Beasley Coliseum.

Richard Solomon tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for California (16-8, 7-4 Pac-12). David Kravish netted 14 points with six boards, and Jordan Mathews came off the bench to score 12 points in the win, which was the second in three games for the Golden Bears.

DaVonte Lacy led all scorers in the game with 39 points, a career high, on 10- of-20 shooting from the floor, including 8-of-15 from 3-point range, and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line for Washington State (9-15, 2-10). D.J. Shelton chipped in 18 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds in the loss. It was the third consecutive defeat for the Cougars.

Cal came out firing in the first half, netting 50 percent of its shot attempts from the floor, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range. The Bears took a 39-30 lead into the intermission after Washington State shot just 32.1 percent from the floor in the period.

The Cougars came roaring back in the second half on 52.4 percent shooting, hitting 9-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, to force overtime. Two Lacy free throws with 16 seconds left in regulation tied the game up, and Cobbs missed a potential game-winner with four seconds on the clock.

Cal controlled the overtime period, hitting 3-of-6 field goal tries from the floor to Washington State's 1-of-3. Each team hit five free throws in the extra period.

Cal had the edge in points in the paint, 34-12, and in rebounding, 38-29. Washington State grabbed the advantage from the free-throw line in the contest, 21-16, and outscored the Golden Bears from 3-point distance, 39-24.
