Recap: Brown vs. Cornell

Providence, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Steven Spieth and Norman Hobbie each poured in 18 points to lead the Brown Bears over the Cornell Big Red, 78-66, in an Ivy League bout at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Hobbie did his damage on 6-of-9 from 3-point range, while Spieth was 5-of-5 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the foul line for Brown (10-7, 2-1 Ivy), which has won four of five. Sean McGonagill added 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the hosts.

Jake Matthews scored 17 points, Nolan Cressler netted 16 and Devin Cherry tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds as Cornell's (1-16, 0-3) dreadful season continued.

Although Brown outshot Cornell from the field in the first half, 50 percent to 35.5 percent, the Big Red carried a 33-30 lead into intermission. Both teams made 11 field goals in the stanza, while Cornell shot 9-of-12 from the stripe.

The Bears took control of the game early in the second half with a 25-7 run and cruised to the victory down the stretch.

Brown shot 8-of-18 from beyond the arc, while Cornell was a mere 3-of-22 from 3-point range.
