Recap: Virginia vs. North Carolina
Charlottesville, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Harris and Malcolm Brogdon both dropped in 16 points as the Virginia Cavaliers ran to a 76-61 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels in an ACC clash at John Paul Jones Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Cavaliers (14-5, 5-1 ACC) was Austin Anderson with 13 points off the bench, while Akil Mitchell contributed with 11 rebounds and London Perrantes handed out nine assists as the team posted a fifth win in six tries.
Leading the way for the Tar Heels (11-7, 1-4) was Kennedy Meeks with 15 points and nine boards in a reserve roll, followed by James Michael McAdoo and Leslie McDonald with 11 and 10 points, respectively, the latter shooting only 4-of-12 from the floor. With the setback UNC has now bowed in four of the last five.
The Heels led by as many as four points early in the meeting, but once the Virginia offense kicked into gear it knocked down 51.9 percent from the field, including 5-of-11 behind the 3-point line, en route to a 38-29 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Cavaliers dipped to only 3-of-9 beyond the arc and a disappointing 11-of-21 showing at the free-throw line, but still the hosts had little trouble finding their way into the win column yet again.
North Carolina finished the night shooting only 4-of-15 on the perimeter and a dismal 5-of-12 at the charity stripe.Game Notes
