Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Jesse Berry poured in 28 points off the bench as the Ball State Cardinals earned an 89-85 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos in a Mid-American Confrence joust at University Arena.

All five of Berry's field goals came from beyond the arc and he also knocked in 13-of-16 from the free-throw line for Ball State (14-14, 7-8 MAC). Jauwan Scaife added 21 points. Chris Bond notched 16 points and Majok Majok had a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Cardinals have won six of their last seven.

Shayne Whittington had a double-double of his own (28 points, 12 rebounds), Austin Richie had 15 points and David Brown chipped in 11 points off the bench for Western Michigan (18-11, 9-6) which has lost back-to-back games.

Ball State came out firing and hit 51.6 percent from the field in the first half as it rolled into the break leading 40-28. Western Michigan connected on 48 percent of its field goal tries.

After the half the Broncos shot a nearly identical percentage from the floor (.486) while notching five shots from beyond the arc. The Cardinals collected just eight field goals on 36.4 percent shooting but held off the Broncos by netting 31-of-40 from the free-throw line.

Western Michigan outscored Ball State, 23-14, in points off turnovers but the Cardinal's 35-18 edge from the free-throw line was too much to overcome.
