Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Darren Goodson tallied 19 points and eight rebounds to help lead the Kent State Golden Flashes to an impressive 68-64 road victory over the Akron Zips at James A. Rhodes Arena in the Mid-American Conference regular-season finale for both teams.

For Akron (24-6, 14-2), Zeke Marshall had 14 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, while Demetrius Treadwell recorded 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Zips, who have lost two of three on the heels of a 19-game winning streak, were without point guard Alex Abreu (10.3 ppg, 6.0 apg), who has been suspended indefinitely.

Akron came out of the gates sluggish, making just 34.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half. Kent State shot 14-of-30 from the floor (.467) in the opening stanza as it took a comfortable 40-25 lead into the break.

The Zips gained ground after intermission, even bringing their deficit to just three with 28 seconds left following a Reggie McAdams 3-pointer, but the Golden Flashes sealed their fate by shooting 4-of-4 from the free-throw stripe to close out the game.

Kent State outscored Akron at the foul line, 20-8.
