Recap: Idaho State vs. Portland State
Pocatello, ID (Sports Network) - Tomas Sanchez knocked down a jumper with six seconds remaining in order to give the Idaho State Bengals a thrilling 72-71 win over the Portland State Vikings in Big Sky Conference action at Holt Arena.
Sanchez finished with seven points and six assists for the Bengals (6-24, 5-15 Big Sky) as they closed out the regular season by snapping a five-game slide. Chris Hansen scored a team-best 16 points for ISU, Andre Hatchett added 13 and seven boards, followed by Sherrod Baldwin and Melvin Morgan with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Vikings (8-20, 5-15), losers of four straight, were paced by Gary Winston with 14 points as every starter finished in double figures. Lateef McMullan was responsible for 13 points, Aaron Moore 12 and seven boards, followed by Renado Parker and Dre Winston with 10 points apiece, the latter clearing eight rebounds as well.
PSU led by six points less than five minutes into the first half and thanks to a 4-of-8 showing behind the 3-point line the visitors were able to move out to a 35-32 lead at the break.
In the second half the Vikings connected on an impressive 58.3 percent from the field, but at the same time the Bengals were converting 53.1 percent, as Sanchez stepped up to play the hero in the waning moments for the hosts.
Idaho State easily won the battle of the boards, 43-28, and also outscored the visitors in the paint by a 42-26 margin as well.Game Notes
