Recap: Kent State vs. Temple
Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Scootie Randall scored a career-high 31 points to help the Temple Owls open the season with an 80-66 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes.
Randall made 5-of-7 shots from inside the arc and drained five 3-pointers. He was joined in double figures by teammate Anthony Lee, who supplied 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Khalif Wyatt and T.J. DiLeo had nine points apiece for Temple (1-0), which shot 52.9 percent from the floor.
Kris Brewer had 19 points to pace the Golden Flashes (1-1), who started their campaign by edging Drexel in overtime on Friday. Chris Evans scored 17 points, but committed eight turnovers.
Temple raced out to a 12-4 lead and DiLeo hit a 3-pointer to make it 30-15 with 7:36 remaining in the first half.
Kent State trimmed seven points off its deficit by halftime and continued to chip away following the break. The Golden Flashes drew even at 46-46 on a Brewer dunk just past the four-minute mark, but the Owls began to pull away again, beginning with consecutive threes by Randall.
Jake O'Brien knocked down a trey to put Temple up 61-51 at the midway point and the Owls led comfortably the rest of the way.Game Notes
