Recap: Stanford vs. Cleveland State

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Aaron Bright scored 17 points off the bench to lead the Stanford Cardinal past the Cleveland State Vikings to pick up a 76-65 decision in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at Maples Pavilion.

Anthony Brown and Josh Owens scored 15 points each for Stanford (23-10). Brown also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Cardinal, who will advance to the second round to face the winner of Wednesday's matchup between Illinois State and Ole Miss.

Jeremy Montgomery paced Cleveland State (21-12) with 15 points. Tim Kamczyc added 13 points and Anton Grady pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for the Vikings.

The Cardinal took a slight 31-30 lead into the intermission after they shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the opening period. Cleveland State made only 32.4 percent of its field goals, but managed to stay close by converting all five of its free throws in the first half.

The Vikings improved after the break and shot 42.4 percent from the floor, but made just 2-of-8 at the charity stripe in the second half. Stanford ran away with it after the break by connecting on 52.2 percent of its field goals and 18-of-29 at the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. The Cardinal led by a double-digit margin for the final 12:55 of the contest.

Cleveland State held a 44-32 advantage in the rebounding battle. Stanford managed to score 29 points off of the Vikings' 21 turnovers.
