Recap: Penn vs. Quinnipiac
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Miles Cartwright scored a game-high 23 points as Penn dismissed Quinnipiac, 74-63, in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational at The Palestra.
Cartwright added nine rebounds and six assists for the Quakers (20-12), while Zack Rosen came up an assist shy of a double-double as he chipped in 16 points for the hosts. Rob Belcore tacked on 14 points for the hosts as well.
The Bobcats (18-14) were paced by Zaid Hearst who recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the setback. James Johnson accounted for a team-best 16 points, Evan Conti dropped in 14 and Ike Azotam 12 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Penn shot a modest 41.9 percent from the field in the first half, compared to 44.4 percent for the visitors, but the Quakers knocked down 6-of-13 shots behind the three-point line in the period in order to post a 34-30 edge at the break.
In the second half the hosts again shot the ball very well on the perimeter (7-of-14) while the Bobcats suffered (1-of-6), en route to the 11-point decision.
Penn, which led from the very start, held the Bobcats to 44.8 percent shooting from the floor on the night.
Penn's next opponent in the quarterfinals on Monday will be Butler which defeated Delaware tonight by a score of 75-58.Game Notes
