Recap: ULM vs. South Alabama
Monroe, LA (Sports Network) - Freddie Goldstein's jumper with 32 seconds remaining lifted the visiting South Alabama Jaguars to an 88-86 win over ULM in Sun Belt Conference action at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Goldstein hit nine three-pointers for the game and led all scorers with 33 points. Mychal Ammons scored 14 points while Augustine Rubit tallied 11 points and seven rebounds for the Jaguars (14-10, 6-7 SBC), who won for the fourth time in their last five outings while also snapping a two-game slide against ULM. Dallas Jones chipped in with a dozen points off the bench.
The Warhawks (2-23, 1-13) battled hard but lost for the eighth straight time, despite 14 three-pointers and scoring 80 or more points for only the second time this season. Senior guard Fred Brown scored a career-high 28 points in the loss, as he shot 6-of-10 from the perimeter. Hugh Mingo added 14 points and eight rebounds, while reserves Charles Winborne and freshman Trent Mackey scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Warhawks led by as many as 13 midway through the first half thanks to an 8-of-15 effort from three-point range, as they took a 43-25 lead into the break.
However, South Alabama rallied back by hitting 9-of-13 threes in the second stanza and led by four with two and a half minutes to play. With a chance to tie or take the lead on the final possession, ULM missed on five attempts and time expired.
USA simply shot lights out from start to finish, burying 14 threes (.636) while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor to go along with a 22-of-28 effort at the free-throw line (.786).Game Notes
