Recap: Rhode Island vs. Fordham
Kingston, RI (Sports Network) - Orion Outerbridge had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Rhode Island cleaned up on the boards to beat Fordham, 78-58, at the Ryan Center.
Anthony Malhoit tallied 21 points and nine rebounds, and Jonathan Holton had 12 of the 58 boards for Rhode Island (7-23, 4-11 A-10), which has won back-to- back contests since a five-game slide. URI will close the regular season Saturday afternoon at Massachusetts.
Branden Frazier had 20 points and Devon McMillan 10 for Fordham (10-18, 3-12), which has dropped seven of its last eight. Fordham will finish the regular season Saturday afternoon by hosting 23rd-ranked Temple.
On Jan. 18, Fordham earned a 66-64 victory in the Bronx over URI, but on this night Rhode Island came out on top for the ninth time in the last 10 matchups in the series.
Fordham shot just 31.6 percent, including 4-of-23 from three-point range. The visitors gave up the game's first six points, trailed 16-2 after Mike Powell's layup and never recovered.
URI held a 35-21 cushion at the half and led by double digits the rest of the way.Game Notes
