Tulsa-native Alfre Woodard to star in Disney's live-action 'Lion King'

TULSA, Okla. - Oscar nominee, four-time Emmy winner and Tulsa-native Alfre Woodard has been cast in Disney's upcoming live-action version of "The Lion King."

Set for release July 19, 2019, the film also stars Donald Glover, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, John Oliver, Billy Eichner and more.

Woodward will play lioness Sarabi in the film.

The actress was born in Tulsa and graduated from Bishop Kelley High School. She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1984 for her performance in "Cross Creek."

Woodard won Emmys in 1984, 1987, 1997 and 2003 for TV roles on the shows "Hill Street Blues", "L.A. Law", "Miss Evers' Boys" and "The Practice."
