SAYRE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has fired a 44-year-old trooper for professional misconduct amid allegations he had an affair with a teenage girl.

Patrol spokesman Capt. Chris West says Ronnie Arganbright of Sayre was fired Tuesday. Arganbright's attorney, Josh Welch, says the former trooper isn't contesting the firing.

Welch tells The Oklahoman that Arganbright made poor decisions but did not break the law. He acknowledged "allegations that Mr. Arganbright had a sexual relationship with the girl after she turned 16" and says that's "not against the law in Oklahoma."

According to Arganbright's termination letter, an OHP report indicates he acknowledged having sex with the girl up to 20 times and that the girl corroborated his claims. The letter says most of the encounters "occurred in remote locations" in Arganbright's patrol car.

The fact that he is an authority figure and probably used coercion at least the first time he had sex with her is in itself reason to prosecute, then he did it in his patrol car....geez cops really can get away with anything can't they? I think I will join, it seems to be the best protection one can have. Look at the cop, Travis Ludwig in Tulsa who was caught selling stolen Coke out of his cop car, he lost his job, but got a suspended sentence, then moved out of state, big whoop! If my kid got caught with a quarter ounce of pot in two bags he would be sent up for 5-life for distribution, that is how our system works here, no wonder we have so much crime in Tulsa.

"had a sexual relationship with the girl after she turned 16" The DPS spin avoids the obvious question "did he have sexual relations with the girl BEFORE she turned 16?" So it only a half-truth, coming from a spokesman well versed in half-truths. Look at their press releases during the Trooper Martin roid-rage fiasco and see how evasive and smug they are.

I agree 100% with Unwashed Mass and jmjjr6. There are OTHERS in jail for the same offense. What makes this individual any different, because he had a badge? He is old enough to be her father. In my opinion that makes him a pervert, regardless if the act is legal or illegal. Unwashed Mass makes a good point. It seems there are always 2 classifications for most crimes anbd sentences. One for the average person, and one for the elites. Just look at the crimes which have, and are, being commited by politicians, business executives, and those with special connections. They serve very little, if any time incarcerated, while the average person is sent to jail. If in doubt, just research the background of the U.S. Senators and Congressmen. As for you roadhunter, sounds like you know some real classy 16 year olds yourself. You consider this trooper "lucky" because he was able to have an affair with a 16 year old. Wow, now that's something to be proud and brag about. If it can be proven that this relation started when she was 14, then he should definitely be charged with rape. I bet some of those inmates would love to have a former state trooper as a cell mate. KARMA because he

In Oklahoma, you have to register as a "sex offender" if you are caught peeing on a bush, but have sex with a minor and you have to go work for another police department.

They have been talking about this in Sayre for 2 years now, since she was 14. Now that she's 16 it's consenting? OHP must have more than one definition of "statutory rape".

The age of consent, Look at those that are in prison for the same thing. I agree that some need to be there if rape was involved. But just to "boink boink" just because he talked her into it. Come on she is 16, what does she know about anything? If this happened to my daughter I would demand that the DA would press charges... A slap on his hand and told not to do it again. There are over 6000 sex offenders in OKLAHOMA are they treated this way????????????

Age of consent for boink boink in Oklahoma is 16. Therefore he was well within his legal right. Not that this was tasteful nor of proper etiquette. He was fired for doing the boink boink in his car.

He should be placed in jail, anybody else would not get an VIP treatment. he admitted haveing sex with a minor the news always covers this kind of crime. Why is this any different? Just because his was an Law officer, what give the press the right to treat him any different? Arrest him put him in with the general population and see how the real world is... I bet that nothing will happen to him because he was a cop. Fox23 news should press this issue. Do the right thing if it was a anybody else they would have talk about it all through out the new cast. This will be the last time we hear about this.....
