SAYRE, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has fired a 44-year-old trooper for professional misconduct amid allegations he had an affair with a teenage girl.
Patrol spokesman Capt. Chris West says Ronnie Arganbright of Sayre was fired Tuesday. Arganbright's attorney, Josh Welch, says the former trooper isn't contesting the firing.
Welch tells The Oklahoman that Arganbright made poor decisions but did not break the law. He acknowledged "allegations that Mr. Arganbright had a sexual relationship with the girl after she turned 16" and says that's "not against the law in Oklahoma."
According to Arganbright's termination letter, an OHP report indicates he acknowledged having sex with the girl up to 20 times and that the girl corroborated his claims. The letter says most of the encounters "occurred in remote locations" in Arganbright's patrol car.
