The Mayor and City Council called a special meeting for Tuesday to discuss a proposal by Mayor Bynum and to take possible action regarding the REI development deal and the lawsuit against it.

The current Mayor and Council say they are just trying to make the best of a situation they didn’t create. None of them played a role in the deal that was made. They’re trying to come to a resolution out of court that will make everyone happy.

Helmerich Park advocates say they don’t anticipate anything happening Tuesday that could halt their lawsuit, but  they do appreciate that there is an effort being made.

They also want to make sure it’s still clear they don’t oppose the REI being there. They just don’t want most of the park being turned into an “asphalt jungle.”

The details are still in the works, but the Mayor’s office says he will present a proposal. They will go into executive session to learn the legal ramifications and there might be action they’re able to take by the end of the meeting.
