Whataburger asks customers to leave Halloween masks at home

TULSA, Okla. - Quick Facts:

  • A Tulsa Whataburger posted a sign asking customers to take off Halloween masks before coming in
  • Police said they think it's a great idea to keep people safe

A fast food chain is taking a stand against crime by asking customers to leave the Halloween masks at home.
Tulsa robbery detectives told FOX23 that most thieves use some kind of mask to conceal their identity when they are committing a crime. They think signs like the ones at Whataburger should be used at more businesses.

Police said it’s important for employees to see customers’ true identities as soon as they come into the business.
“We see it over and over again. People hide their identities. They use this time of year to hide their identities to commit robberies,” said Sgt. Brandon Watkins.

FOX23 reached out to Whataburger’s corporate office, but they have not yet responded.
