Four die in disturbance at Cimarron Correctional Facility

CUSHING, Okla. - Quick facts:

  • Four inmates died Sunday after Saturday’s incident at the Cimarron Correctional Facility.
  • The incident was contained to a single housing pod for 40 minutes. The acutal altercation last about 2 minutes.
  • No staff members were injured.

According to a statement released Sunday afternoon, four inmates have died and three are still in the hospital in stable condition after an incident at a Green Country correctional facility in Cushing.

Just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, facility staff at the Cimarron Correctional Facility quelled an inmate disturbance they say lasted only two minutes.

Officials say it was contained to a single housing pod and staff worked to secure the housing area for approximately 40 minutes.

Sunday, authorities told FOX23 that the Cushing facility is still on lockdown status, which means inmates are confined to their housing areas, allowing facility management and law enforcement the opportunity to investigate the incident and conduct a welfare check on all offenders housed at the facility.

On Monday, Cimarron Correctional Facility released the names of the offenders involved in the incident. 

  • Jared Cruce– Remains Hospitalized 
  •  Cordell Johnson – Remains Hospitalized
  •  Jesse Hood  – Remains Hospitalized   
  •  Anthony Fulwilder – Deceased
  •  Michael Mayden – Deceased
  •  Kyle Tiffee  – Deceased
  •  Christopher Tignor– Deceased

 An additional offender was treated at the hospital and taken back to the facility. No workers were injured in the altercation. 

The CCA is working closely with officials from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General and will cooperate fully with its ongoing investigation.
