A Green Country teen is thankful to be alive after he had a gun pulled on him Friday. The thief got away with an early Christmas present when he stole the 13-year-old’s first cell phone.

"It was really scary but I'm alright now," said 13-year-old Robert Perez.

He was still shaken and scared but walked FOX23 through what happened Friday afternoon. Robert was visiting his grandparents in Tulsa when he decided to go to the park with his brother and cousin.

"I saw him come up the road," said Robert.

The teen says when he realized the person was sitting there he grabbed his little brother and cousin to leave. But the person followed.

"He started talking and I thought he was talking on his phone," said Robert.

Robert told FOX23 when he realized the guy was asking him what time it was he pulled out his phone to tell him. The robber then pulled out his gun and told the teen to drop his phone. The 13-year-old said he did and then tried to defend himself.

"I grabbed the gun and pushed it away from me. I almost had it but he jerked back really hard and said now your dead fool," he said.

The teen said then the thief ran off.

"Why did you grab the gun?" asked FOX23’s Dontaye Carter.
"I wasn't thinking. I just knew he was going to hurt my brothers, he was going to hurt my cousins, and he’s going to hurt someone else,” said Robert. “I thought I could take it from him and hold him until police got there."

Robert says he ran to a neighbor’s house where they called police he got away with only scratches on his hand from grabbing the gun. However, his mother, Angela Jones is just thankful she only lost the phone.

“If this happens to someone else the gun may go off,” she said. “He may shoot someone, you never know. Just be aware of your surroundings."

Police do not recommend ever trying to take a gun from a robber.  The teen says he now knows better.
Police recommend cooperating with a robber in that case. They say nothing is worth your life.

Never have taken one red cent from your Uncle Sugar nor did my father or grand father and don't live in Tahlequah, have worked for everything I have, don't drink or use your precious illegal drugs and I have no respect for people who have made it a lifestyle out of living off the gov't...it wasn't meant for them, you show your true colors here, you resent the very ones who subsidise you,you hate hispanics because they do something you won't...work

Aleman living safe quiet and warm for this Christmas in his little Indian home that was built for him by the Cherokee nation with a subsidy Provided by good ole uncle Sam. Sitting in the back yard on a wood stump waiting for a deer to come by sos he can ambush it with a shotgun and take her (yea he probably poaches on government property) home to kook fer dinner. He feels entitled to do all that he does yet disrespects any benefit that another may recieve. He doesn't live in the Tulsa community and no matter what happens it's bad because it is in Tulsa not his moonshinin redneck cattle rustling drunk driving part of the woods. Fortunately not everyone in Tulsaquah is like aleman google still calls him Alena LOL

i don't understand why they stole the phone. Any smart parent is going to cancel service to the phone and reported it stole and no one will be able to activate it so what good is a cell phone. Shame on that person for scaring a young teenager. Now you just made the community mad and you will be caught.

Maynot speaking of color I would assume the paleman comments have to do with you assuming that I am a white man when in fact I am Cherokee, you look rather caught up in your own inferrences and prejudices

More word salad from Maynot the grand defender of the ne'r do well, paranoid thinking from the left who always presumes one is speaking of the African community when no color is mentioned and scream prejudice when they themselves are willing and ready to jump on the hispanic community their favorite whipping post

Ttown paleman lives in the darkness. How do you expect him to see clearly. His contentious statement 'the man' paints the teen as Caucasion while he appears to be of Hispanic descent. Simultaneously inferring that the perpertrator is African American in a continual effort to stir the pot like a good newsbot (pat him on the head give him a biscuit) 8-P Of course I have my own opinion on the topic #8*]] It's probably Hispanic on Hispanic the child bears the surname of a well to do retailer in our area.

Not to be a jerk or anything but I get so tired of giving half of my check to people who feel like I owe it to them then they turn around and rob us and I ain't no rich man it all comes from hard labor.I think a lot of folks feel like I do,in the process of dehumanizing these people they have convinced them that we owe them something and that there is someone to blame for their condition..."The Man" just like Homey the Clown on that old TV show used to say. They won't catch him until he shoots someone you watch
