A traffic stop at a state park ended up leading authorities to an alleged illicit relationship between a former Michigan firefighter and a Green Country teen.
"This guy was willing to come all the way from Michigan," said Michael Moore, a District Attorney Investigator for Cherokee County.
He told FOX23 the 26-year-old traveled hundreds of miles to have sex with a teen.
"This was one incident,” Moore said. “How many more 12, 13-year-old girls has he been seeing around the country?"
He says the 26-year-old preyed on the teen for months before he started visiting Oklahoma.
"He actually came here and spent a month at one point in time," said the investigator.
Moore is keeping the man's name a secret because he hasn't been arrested yet.
However, they're hoping to have him soon.
Moore says DHS called him after the state park rangers reported finding the teen and 26-year old in a car together. Her parents were called and the teen was later asked to speak with Moore about her relationship with the man.
"During that interview it became clear about what kind of relationship they were having," he said.
Rangers found items in the suspect's room that also led them to believe the two just weren't hanging out. Moore says the man would visit staying at motels around town.
"She wasn't there every day or every night but there was plenty of opportunity for them to get together at that point because there was nothing being monitored."
Investigators are looking at charging him with rape.
"We're going to try to lure him here possibly,” Moore said. “If that doesn't work we've already contacted the authorities in Michigan."
He says parents being more active in their children’s life can help prevent this from happening.
"You need to monitor what your kids are doing on their laptops, iPads and cellphones,” He said. “Also keep track of who their friends are online and what they are posting."
Investigators tell us they have a plan to lure the suspect back to Oklahoma.
FOX23 will let you know if an arrest is made.
