A blind Tulsa runner laced up his shoes and ran after his dreams Saturday.
Randy Howard trained for nearly a year with his guide, Mary Ann Knell, to cross the finish line at the 35th Annual Tulsa Run.
"We can do anything we want to do if we want to do it bad enough," said Howard.
He lost his vision when he was three-years-old. Howard was born with Retinoblastoma but said he has never let his disability stop him from achieving his goals. Saturday, he finished the Tulsa 5k Run.
"The rewards are well worth it. It’s not easy. It’s not a picnic. It’s not something your going to do with two weeks of training," Howard told FOX23.
Despite the 30 degree temperatures and chilly wind, Howard held tight to Knell’s elbow and reached his personal goal. Howard set out to finish the race in 35 minutes. He finished in 35 minutes and 36 seconds.
"Just because you have a handicap like I’ve been saying it shouldn't stop you from doing anything, said Knell. “He’s proof."
"Where there's a will there's a way," Howard told FOX23.
Nearly 10,000 runners showed up to run in the event.
