Tulsa Oktoberfest is underway along the riverfront.

This year there's been a change in how the festival operates. FOX23 learned organizations working at Oktoberfest are getting donations in return for their time.

Webster High School's band is volunteering at Oktoberfest, not for community service hours but for money.

This year non-profit organizations helping out at Oktoberfest will get donations in return for their time.

They don't get the money people pay for the soda they're selling, but the group will get about $7 per hour for each worker.

Webster is not the only school taking advantage; groups from Union schools are also at the festival.

Some of the groups are on track to raise thousands of dollars for their schools. Those donations will be from Oktoberfest Incorporated, not from River Parks or the city.
