The Tulsa Police Department arrested a woman in the parking lot of the Tulsa Caves Night Club at 21st and Sheridan around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
TPD arrested 29-year-old Karen Menchaca after she fired off a single gun shot into the air. TPD says Menchaca was arguing with someone in the parking lot before she went to her car and grabbed a gun.
No one was injured and security guards from The Caves were able to detain Menchaca before police arrived.
Menchaca was booked in the Tulsa County Jail on a complaint of reckless handing of a fire arm.
Media Director for The Caves Night Club, David Short, says since the club opened its doors on March 16th it has been a busy atmosphere. "We want the neighborhood to get in and make this their own," Short said.
Some people who live in the area said the revamped Casabonita building brings new life to the area and is helping to bolder the local economy. Others who live in close by neighborhoods say the music and the night life is too much. One neighbor told FOX23, "when it was a restaurant it was peaceful, there weren't any gunshots."
David Short admits that the Sunday morning shooting wasn't the first run in they have had outside the establishments. Short said one one other occasion there were gun shots fires and there was another incident that led to a fist fight. Short said the club has done all it can to beef up security so that customers and neighbors feel safe. "We have metal detectors, we frisk people at the door and we check bags."
Short says the nightclub can have anywhere from 600-900 people on a given night. He said all three of the incidents did not lead to major injuries. "We haven't had any instances inside, none at all, anytime anybody seems to be riled up we punt them outside as quick as possible," said Short.
