A local wild life control specialist has received numerous calls about rat snakes in Tulsa and surrounding areas.

Reginald Murray with Oklahoma Wildlife Control LLC said that the rat snake is not poisonous, relatively harmless and is commonly reported in Oklahoma.

“They are a good snake and they benefit the environment in many ways,” said Murray, “For us it’s typical to see them this time of year.”

Murray said that he received about 45 calls in one week from people reporting that they saw rat snakes. He’s had to do inspections for people in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Sapulpa, Bristow and Fairview.

He said that most reported seeing them inside but some have reported seeing them inside of their home. Murray told FOX23 that one client hear a snake sliding around in their attic. When he went to inspect the home he found two snakes inside the attic.

“The largest one was about six and half feet long and it was a rat snake,” said Murray.

Murray said that if you spot a snake inside of a home or building it might be an indication of a rodent problem.

Murray said that if you see a rat snake outdoors it is best to leave it alone. If you see one inside you should call pest control.

Maybe they should have called about their rats and mice. Then they wouldn't have snakes.

The best thing to do with a snake in your house if you have a rodent problem is LEAVE IT ALONE. They don't spread disease like mice and rats...and after they have eaten the rodents they'll go somewhere else.
