The number of unemployed oklahomans looking for jobs has doubled in two years. Now about 125,000 Oklahomans are out of work and looking for a job. The unemployment rate has shown signs of improvement here, down from 7.3 to 7 percent. So somebody's been hiring, but who?
To find out, FOX23 asked Carey Duncan Baker, the owner and founder of Part Time Pros. Businesses turn to her when they're looking for temporary or part time employees. She matches them with degreed professionals who've she says, so far, business has been good this year.
Carey said, "The bigger employers are looking for some managment positions which tells me that things are improving. They're hiring individuals like HR managers. Typically those are the first to go in a bad economy because they don't have recruiting needs. If they're hiring for an HR manager in 2010 that says to me that they're looking to hire additional staff and start ramping up recruiting across the next year."
She says some positions she's seen opening up include, sales, marketing and customers service. Also, she said there's need for some IT professionals, accounting and finance.
Quick Trip also says opportunities are available.
Quick trip exec Mike Thornbrough says the recession did slow business down, but QT continued hiring with store expansion and new construction.
Thornbrough said, "The individual that we're looking for... we want somebody who's outgoing. Somebody who is fast paced and somebody who wants that opportunity to do well and work their way up... We ask employees why they started at Quick Trip. I think the most commn response is I needed a job, so I thought I would do this on a short term basis until I found something else. The people who are saying that are typically the ones who are celebrating their 5 and 10 year anniversary."
Williams recruitment office says right now it's looking to fill about 100 spots nationwide about 25 here in Tulsa
