FOX23 is hearing from the White House about comments from Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin.

She said it would be a "nice gesture" for President Barack Obama to comment on the killing of Australian baseball player, Christopher Lane, like he did after the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Lane's death is becoming racially charged. And there's mounting pressure for President Obama to respond publicly or risk looking like a hypocrite.

Three teens charged with his death allegedly told police they were bored.

Obama spoke at a news conference last year and called Trayvon Martin's death a tragedy.

"If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," said the president.

On "Fox News Sunday," Fallin was asked whether President Obama should speak out on the Lane case, as conservatives have suggested.

"I think it would be a nice gesture for him to do that, especially since the country of Australia has expressed their sentiments as to the murder itself," she said.

FOX23's Kyla Campbell pressed the White House on how it would respond to Fallin. Campbell's contact pointed out a statement from White House spokesman Matt Lehrich gave a day before Fallin appeared on TV:

"As the President has expressed on too many tragic occasions, there is an extra measure of evil in an act of violence that cuts a young life short. The President and First Lady's thoughts and prayers are with Chris Lane's family and friends in these trying times."

The district attorney handling the case in Lane's death says the evidence is insufficient to establish that race was the primary motive in the shooting death of Christopher Lane.
