On Christmas day, it will be four years since the bodies of Jack and Elaine Denney were found in their home just south of Locust Grove. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says they've followed more than 200 leads, but just like investigators in the Weleetka case, they need one more clue to tie everything together.

Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault's says the toughest part of his job is “when I can't bring something to a resolution.”

That’s the reality for the toughest case of his career, the murders of Jack and Elaine Denney.
The Denney's shot several times before they were found by their daughter.

“It's not a cold case, I hate to classify this as a cold case, because it's something we work on all the time,” Chennault said.

On Friday, investigators like Chennault got an unexpected shot of hope, charges in the murders of Skyla Whitaker and Taylor Paschal-Placker.

“That gives us great hope.”

Like investigators in Okfuskee County, Chennault is working with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

“The investigators that are working on that case are the same ones that are working on this case,” he told FOX23.

OSBI says its determined to close more cases that have stayed open far too long.

"I recognize that there are other unsolved cases throughout out our state that investigators work on every singe day. To the families of those victims know that every case is a priority for us and be assured that the OSBI will continue to work thoroughly on these cases as well,” OSBI Director Stan Florence said Friday.

For Chennault, after seeing two families in Okfuskee County feel a sense of closure ... he's confident the Denney family will one day know the same feeling.

“Sooner or later, it's going to come out. I have 100 percent faith that we're going to get this solved.”
