Weather safety plans begin underground at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.

“We have all of our emergency operation plans and we have our incident command center so we are prepared for anything down here,” said Safety Coordinator of Hillcrest Medical Center, Megan Quickle.

Emergency operations plans take shape in the basement of Hillcrest to keep medical professionals and the patients who are above ground, safe. Quickle says that the main objective is to keep the hospital up and running during anything Mother Nature dishes out.

“Living in Oklahoma you have to be prepared for everything at any given time,” said Quickle.

She says severe weather can’t get in the way of people’s health and that is why she is constant contact with the National Weather Service and the Downtown emergency response medical center when impending storms are present.

“Schools may close and officers may close but we are open 24 hours a day,” said Quickle.

Quickle says that Hillcrest has emergency plans and response procedures in place to deal with any kind of weather emergency.

She says they don’t anticipate the current forecast of rain and potential snow in Tulsa will be an issue. The hospital is currently under normal snow operating procedures and has snow removal services on standby if they are needed.

“We want to make sure that we are prepared in case it comes here and we have plans in place if employees need to spend the night here,” said Quickle. “We have cots and rooms available if needed.”

Quickle says the hospital will administer de-icing salt and sand to the sidewalks and entrances when the rain subsides.
