On Main Street in Owasso you can find all kinds of local shops.

Shops that get a big boost the first Thursday of every month because of one event.

Locally-owned businesses, like Medicap Pharmacy, use the Owasso Gathering on Main to make connections with potential customers.

FOX23 spoke with the owner of Medicap, Kathy Campbell, she tells us,
"We visit with people and talk about our independent pharmacy and what we provide people, that personalized service."

But that won't happen this Thursday, and by the looks of Owasso's Gathering on Main Facebook page, Mother Nature is to blame.

It says they made the decision because of expected frigid temperatures and a wintry mix.

However, event volunteers we spoke with tell us it was more about the possible precipitation.

We spoke with Chad Ballthrop, who's on the board of volunteers in Owasso, he tells us,
"Our group was going to let people make their own s'mores. We had fire pits and we were gonna have some portable heaters, so really the cold wasn't a concern for us."

What the cold might bring with it though, was a concern.

"With the precipitation that is possible and probably likely…we just didn't want to get in the way," Ballthrop continued.

Now the people of Owasso and these small business owners will have quite a wait ahead.

Another event isn't scheduled until April.

"I'm really a little sad about it. Cause it was going to be a caroling, holiday festivity, but the weather is the weather," Campbell told FOX23.

We also talked with people around town and looked at social media. A lot of people had questions about the cancellation, some even wondering if organizers might change their minds about cancelling if the weather doesn't move in.

The Coweta Rotary Club has postponed the Coweta Christmas Parade from this Saturday, December 7 at 6pm to December 14 at 6pm.

Wagoner's Christmas parade, which had been planned for this week, has been postponed, due to the wintery blast expected to hit the area. The parade now will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 12.
