Tuesday is the busiest day for UPS deliveries.

But FOX23 found out last week's winter storm caused problems and held up packages.

A local manager told FOX23 that 838 workers are running 24 hours a day to make sure people get holiday gifts on time.

"We're experiencing delays in the mid-Atlantic region, the northeast, Ohio, Texas and Oklahoma, currently, we're doing 24-hour shifts, we've ramped up additional staffing to help us process that volume and make sure it's all delivered by Christmas," said Freida Larson, a UPS sales manager.

Larson said part of the problem is volume. This year cyber Monday was bigger than ever, and all of those purchases are being sent out now.

The other issue is the weather.

"Unfortunately, Dallas was not as prepared because they're not used to having snow and ice, and that shut that city down and caused a bottleneck for us, and we're working through that," said Larson.

Tulsa mom Claire Dwyer got caught up in a UPS bottleneck, but not in Dallas.

"I got online and it said it was stuck in Memphis for adverse weather conditions, so it sat there for a week, and then finally arrived on the 16th, so about 10 days late," said Dwyer.

She'd ordered a holiday gift for her daughter and paid extra for two-day shipping.

FOX23 asked Dwyer if she was going to try to get the $15 fee back, "Well, I called and they put me on hold and they said the wait for talking to someone was 30 minutes, so I hung up because I wasn't going to wait for 30 minutes," she said.
She said thank goodness it was just clothes.

"I was glad that it was not like some awesome toy that she was really looking forward to for Christmas, but it's still stuff that you've paid for that's just sitting there, not getting to you," said Dwyer.

"We want to exceed our customers' expectations and that's challenging when you have weather delays that you can't control," said Larson.
