The repairs are nearly complete tonight but crews have been out at 61st and Garnett in Broken Arrow all day, Friday, fixing a broken pipe.

It's a story we first brought you on FOX23 "News This Morning."

Water and flooding caused some issues for drivers this morning near that busy intersection.

All lanes are back open tonight.

Broken Arrow crews replaced the pipe and filled the ground back up with dirt.

Right now, a truck is holding up a traffic light pole making sure it does fall over because the ground is unstable.

Early commuters and people heading out to the malls and shops had to drive through flooded streets Friday morning at 61st and Garnett, but as crews finish repairing the pipe the water is flushing away this evening.

FOX23 spoke with commuter Seth Points who saw the water at its highest point,
"When I was pulling up I saw the water splashing from other people driving. When I got to the light, I actually stopped at the light and I looked over to the left, because I was coming from the north. The water seemed to be coming from multiple spots in the road."

A Broken Arrow spokesperson says there was an 8-inch break in the pipe around 7 am.

Crews were out for almost 12 hours repairing the damage.

We also spoke with a Broken Arrow Water Department crew member, Micheal Shumar tells FOX23,
"We cut out a 6-foot section of pipe put two 15 inch clamps in and a new piece of pipe in."

Once the water was shut off, traffic issues were alleviated although a lane on Garnett and a lane on 61st remained closed all day.

Crews say the effect to businesses seemed minimal.

Only the Sonic on Garnett had to close for the day because of the water issue.

Other businesses noticed water pressure problems but it wasn't enough to close.

Crews say if the break had been just a few feet down, the impact on businesses and residents would have been worse.

"If it were further down, Arby's, the car wash… all could have been without water."

I learned today that many of pipes in the eastern portion of Tulsa have a tendency to burst because they are older.
