For hours, Tulsa City crews have been spread across the Metro working to repair nearly 20 water main breaks.

One of the major breaks happened near 21st Street and Wheeling Avenue between Saint John's Hospital and Utica Square.

Crews say they will work through the night to repair the ruptured line.

Tulsa police were forced to shut down traffic in the area because of the repairs needed and because of the flooded roadway.

Our FOX23 team has been on scene at the water main break all day Saturday learning details like who is affected and when the line will be repaired.

If you know someone driving or you are about to drive, police are asking you to stay away from East 21st Street around Utica Square and Saint John's Hospital because the road is dangerous and could collapse.

City crews and Tulsa police officers were out all day Saturday because of a 16 inch water main break.

Water was everywhere, gushing in front of cars, making the roadway dangerous.

The line that broke is in between Saint John's Hospital and Utica Square shopping center.

"Well I’ve been an officer for 16 years and I’ve never seen one so bad on a main street," said Tulsa Police Sargent Clay Ballenger.

TPD told FOX23 they blocked off traffic on east 21st street from Utica to Lewis. Even Utica Square security officers pitched in and helped them but with so many entrances, exits and side roads in the area, there were drivers that still found a way onto the road.

“Again, they just see the water and they think 'I can make it through the water.' That’s a bad idea because there may not be street underneath there. The street's all buckled; there are a whole bunch of streets that are buckled here now so this could be shut down for a while,” said Sgt. Ballenger.

“I just heard one of the city workers out in the center of the street -- he yelled because someone was trying to come thru and I just felt like I needed to go stop him," said passerby Scott Fetgatter.

FOX23 caught Fetgatter trying to help drivers who were driving over the break, the same place where just 30 minutes before we heard rumbling and felt the street shaking.

We checked with Saint John's Hospital and their daily operations have not been affected.

We had 15 water main breaks Friday.

Tulsa police told FOX23 they will continue to block off east 21st Street between Utica and Lewis.

It's happening all over. Thinking about saving a few bottles of water myself.
